These 30 GK questions with answers in Tamil and English come from Thervu's own question bank, which our subject teachers write. They cover Tamil Nadu geography, Indian geography, history, polity, general science and Tamil literature, at the level asked in TNPSC Group 4, TNUSRB police exams and other Tamil Nadu government exams. Each question has four options, the answer and a one-line explanation.
The questions are in English on this page. The Tamil version of this page has the same 30 questions in Tamil, in the same order, so you can switch between the two.
How to use these GK questions with answers in Tamil
Treat the set as a short test, not as reading material.
Cover the answer line under each question with your hand or a sheet of paper.
Give yourself about 30 seconds a question: 15 minutes for all 30. The real paper gives you about 54 seconds a question (200 in 3 hours), so this pace leaves you time to spare for harder questions.
Write down your choice before you look. Mark the ones you guessed, even if you got them right.
Read the explanation for every question you missed or guessed, then come back to those questions in two or three days.
If you are preparing for Group 4, this mix matters: the 2026 paper has 75 General Studies questions and 100 Tamil questions out of 200 (see our Group 4 notification 2026 guide and the unit-wise syllabus). Wrong answers carry no negative mark in Group 4, but a question left completely blank costs 0.5 mark; if you don't know, the rules say to shade option [E], "answer not known". Since a wrong answer costs nothing, an educated guess between two options is usually worth taking, so practise making that call here too.

Check your score
Score | What it tells you | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
26 to 30 | Your basics are strong | Move to timed, full-length practice |
18 to 25 | One or two areas are weak | Note the section where you dropped marks and practise that topic |
Below 18 | The school-level base needs work | Start with the Samacheer Kalvi books for each unit (which books to read) |
Count a guessed answer as wrong when you score yourself. A guess that happened to be right is still a gap.
How to practise more GK questions
Thirty questions show you where you stand; regular practice is what moves your score. On Thervu you can take timed tests in Tamil or English, drawn from the same teacher-written bank as this page. Tests are marked the moment you submit, and the questions you get wrong come back for revision so they stick. On Pro you can also pick the topic, and every answer comes with its explanation. The free plan includes free tests every day; see plans for the limits.
A simple routine that works for most aspirants:
One short topic test a day, rotating through geography, history, polity, science and Tamil.
A full-length test once a week, timed like the real paper.
Ten minutes going back over the week's wrong answers before each full test.
If you have not fixed a timetable yet, our 90-day Group 4 study plan lays one out. The same GK base also serves the TN Police constable exam, and our list of upcoming government exams in Tamil Nadu shows what else is coming up.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I practise GK questions in Tamil for free?
On Thervu you can take free tests every day in Tamil or English, marked the moment you submit, with the right answer shown for every question; Pro adds an explanation for every answer and topic-wise tests. For reading, the Tamil Nadu Samacheer Kalvi school textbooks (Classes 6 to 10) cover most of the same ground and are free.
Are these questions from previous TNPSC papers?
No. They come from Thervu's own question bank, written by our subject teachers in the style of past TNPSC Group 4 papers and at the same SSLC level. They are not copied from TNPSC question papers.
How many general knowledge questions are there in TNPSC Group 4?
In the 2026 Group 4 notification, Part B General Studies has 75 questions and Part C Aptitude and Mental Ability has 25. Part A, the Tamil test, has 100 questions, and that is where questions on Tamil literature and scholars come from.
Are these GK questions useful for TN Police (TNUSRB) exams too?
Yes. The General Knowledge section of the TNUSRB constable written exam covers the same school-level science, history, geography and polity, so the first five sets here apply directly.
Should I practise GK in Tamil or in English?
Practise in the language you will answer in. In TNPSC Group 4, General Studies questions are printed in both Tamil and English, so either works, but Part A is in Tamil only.
