Upcoming TNPSC exams 2026: Group 4, Group 2/2A and the 2027 planner

Group 4 (CCSE-IV) 2026 is the big one. Notification No. 11/2026, dated 6 October 2026, lists 6,574 vacancies (tentative) for VAO, Junior Assistant, Typist, Steno-Typist, Bill Collector and other posts. Apply online at tnpscexams.in until 5 November 2026, 11:59 PM. The correction window runs from 9 to 11 November, and the exam is on 10 January 2027, 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

That is about 90 days from today, so a 90-day Group 4 study plan fits almost exactly. The Group 4 notification guide has post-wise vacancies, fees and the application steps, and the Group 4 exam guide covers the pattern and selection. Two rules to note now: the general-category upper age limit for most posts is 30, down from the 32 reported for 2025, and every question left blank costs half a mark, so shade option E when you don't know the answer.

Group 2/2A prelims is on 1 November 2026, 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, as reported by DT Next. TNPSC's annual planner had pencilled it in for 25 October. It is a degree-level exam, so it is not for every Group 4 aspirant.

Group 1 prelims was moved from 6 September to 27 September 2026 (reported by Careers360) and has been held, so it drops off this calendar until the mains schedule is announced.

2027 Annual Planner. TNPSC released its 2026 planner on 3 December 2025. Recent planners have come out between October and December (the 2025 one in October 2024), and the 2027 one will give the next Group 4 notification and exam dates. We will add them here once it is out, along with our TNPSC annual planner guide.

TN Police (TNUSRB) recruitment calendar 2026–27

TNUSRB's annual planner for 2026–27, updated on 2 September 2026, lists six recruitments. The months are tentative notification dates, not exam dates:

  • December 2026: Grade II Police Constable (Women), and Sub-Inspector of Police (Women), Taluk.

  • February 2027: the Common Recruitment for Grade II Police Constables, Jail Warders and Firemen, and Sub-Inspector (Technical).

  • March 2027: Band Police Constable.

  • June 2027: Sub-Inspector of Police.

Don't wait for the notice to start. In the last common recruitment, applications ran from 22 August to 21 September 2025 and the written exam was on 9 November 2025 (reported by Samayam Tamil), less than three months after the notice. The constable written exam has a Tamil eligibility test (Part I) and a 70-mark main paper of General Knowledge and Psychology (Part II), followed by physical tests.

Start running now too: the endurance and physical tests come within weeks of the written result. The standards and events are in the TNUSRB physical test guide, pay is in TN Police salary, and the exam guides are TN Police Constable and TN Police SI.

Railway exams: RRB NTPC and Group D

RRB NTPC Graduate (CEN 06/2026) has 3,548 posts: Goods Train Manager 2,750, Senior Clerk cum Typist 371, Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist 300 and Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor 127. RRB Chennai has 141 of them. Apply by 6 November 2026 (11:59 PM), pay the fee by 8 November, and corrections are open from 9 to 18 November. The age limit is 18 to 33 as on 1 January 2027, and the exam is offered in Tamil.

Station Master is not in this notice. The Railway Board has said it will get its own notification (reported by Testbook), with no date yet.

RRB NTPC Under-Graduate (CEN 07/2026) has a short notice for about 1,688 posts: Commercial cum Ticket Clerk 700, Junior Clerk cum Typist 600, Accounts Clerk cum Typist 200 and Trains Clerk 188. Applications are expected from 15 October to 13 November 2026, with the detailed notice around 14 October (reported by Guidely). Check the detailed notice for RRB Chennai's share and the age limit.

CBT dates for both NTPC notices have not been announced. The RRB NTPC guide has the pattern, and RRB NTPC salary has post-wise pay.

RRB Group D (CEN 09/2025) has 22,195 Level 1 posts, 1,036 of them in Southern Railway. The CBT was held in August 2026 and the answer key came out on 7 September. The result is expected in the fourth week of October (reported by FreeJobAlert).

Next comes the PET, for about three times the community-wise vacancies. Men carry 35 kg for 100 m in 2 minutes, then run 1,000 m in 4 min 15 s; women carry 20 kg for 100 m in 2 minutes, then run 1,000 m in 5 min 40 s. If you wrote the CBT, train for the PET now rather than after the result. Last cycle's RRB Chennai figures are in RRB Group D cut-off.

Upcoming bank exams 2026: SBI Clerk and PO

SBI Clerk (Junior Associates) 2026 has 9,766 posts nationally and 1,539 in Tamil Nadu. The prelims was held on 26 and 27 September, and as of 11 October 2026 the result is not out. SBI's Junior Associates notice puts the mains "tentatively" in November 2026, and the final merit list is based on the mains alone. If your Class 10 or 12 mark sheet doesn't show Tamil as a subject, you take a Tamil language test before joining. See SBI Clerk cut-off for Tamil Nadu and SBI Clerk salary.

SBI PO 2026 has 1,500 posts. The mains was on 12 September and its result is awaited. SBI's PO notice schedules Phase III (psychometric test, group exercise and interview) for October–November and the final result for November–December 2026.

SBI has not announced its next clerk or PO notification. Other bank recruiters such as IBPS publish their own calendars; this page tracks SBI because it is the bank exam Thervu covers. The SBI Clerk and PO guide has both patterns.

How to prepare for several exams at once

Most Tamil Nadu aspirants write two or three of these exams. The overlap is real, but not complete:

Area

Where it counts

Tamil

TNPSC Group 4 Part A (100 questions, 150 marks); TNUSRB Part I Tamil test (qualifying)

General studies and GK

TNPSC General Studies (75 questions); TNUSRB General Knowledge (45); RRB NTPC General Awareness (40 of 100 in CBT-1); RRB Group D General Science and General Awareness

Current affairs

All of them; SBI's mains leans towards banking and the economy

Aptitude and reasoning

TNPSC (25 questions); TNUSRB Psychology (25); RRB NTPC Maths and Reasoning (60 of 100 in CBT-1); SBI (the whole prelims besides English)

  • Build one GK base. The Samacheer Kalvi textbooks for Classes 6–10 cover the polity, history, geography, science and economy that TNPSC, the police exam and railway General Awareness all draw on. Which books for each unit maps them.

  • Put Tamil first if TNPSC or police is on your list. Part A carries half of Group 4's marks, and TNUSRB's Tamil test decides whether your main paper is marked at all. Start with the General Tamil guide.

  • Practise aptitude at the hardest exam's speed. TNPSC aptitude is SSLC level, RRB is a step up, and SBI is the fastest, with 20-minute sections. If you can keep pace in SBI-style sets, TNPSC aptitude feels easy.

  • Learn each exam's marking rule. TNPSC: no penalty for a wrong answer, but a blank costs half a mark (shade E). TNUSRB: no negative marking. RRB: a third of a mark off per wrong answer. SBI: a quarter of a mark off.

  • Anchor your plan to the nearest confirmed date. Right now that is TNPSC Group 4 on 10 January 2027. Keep a fixed weekly slot for the other exam's extra subjects, and use GK questions in Tamil for quick daily revision.

Thervu has mock tests in Tamil and English for TNPSC Group 4, TN Police constable and SI, RRB NTPC, RRB Group D and SBI Clerk/PO, with instant marking, your wrong answers brought back for revision and, on Pro, topic-wise tests, which helps when one GK base has to serve two exams. The free plan includes free tests every day; see plans.

We re-check every date on this page against the official sites each month. If you spot a date that has changed, write to support@thervu.in and we will update it.
