Most posts need only an SSLC pass. Typist posts also need the government typewriting exam; Steno-Typist, Personal Clerk and Shorthand Typist need typewriting and shorthand.
Some corporation posts need more: a B.Com for the 422 Junior Assistant (Accounts) posts, a degree for several other corporation posts, and Higher Secondary with science for the lab and Forest Guard posts.
Religion-specific posts: HR&CE Executive Officer posts are only for Hindus; the Waqf Board's Typist and Steno posts only for Muslims.
Forest posts need a minimum height (men 163 cm, women and third gender 150 cm, lower for ST) and an endurance walk. Choose "All the Posts" in the application to be considered for them.
What changed from 2025
More posts at the start. 2025 began with 3,935 posts and reached 5,307 after two additions, by TNPSC's own count (Addendum 7C/2025). 2026 starts at 6,574.
A lower upper age. The general limit is 30 for most posts. For 2025 it was reported as 32, with 34 for BC/MBC and 37 for SC/ST (Oliveboard), so the main limits are two years lower this year.
Missing posts. Posts from recent Group 4 rounds not in this list: plain Forest Guard (there is only one Forest Guard with Driving Licence post), Junior Revenue Inspector, Field Surveyor, Draftsman and Forest Watcher (Tribal Youth).
Who can apply: age as on 1 July 2026
Post | General ("Others") | BC, BCM, MBC/DC | SC, SC(A), ST |

How to apply for TNPSC Group 4 exam 2026
Go to tnpscexams.in. If you have never registered, complete One Time Registration (OTR) first: ₹150, valid five years. Aadhaar linking is mandatory, and you need your own email ID and mobile number.
Enter your SSLC details exactly: register number, certificate number, month and year of passing, medium and board (from the final mark sheet if you took more than one attempt). A mistake here can get the application rejected later.
Log in and click "Apply" against the Group 4 (CCSE-IV) notification. Check the OTR details shown; fix any error through OTR Edit before you go further.
Fill in the application: community, qualifications (including typewriting and shorthand grades), claims such as PSTM, post options, and two exam-centre preferences.
Upload your photograph and signature. The photo must be a colour studio photograph taken on or after 6 October 2026, white background, with your name and the date printed below it (JPG, 20–50 KB); no selfies or phone photos. Sign inside a 6 × 2 cm box in blue or black ink and scan it (JPG, 10–20 KB).
Preview, then pay the ₹100 fee or claim your exemption.
Submit and note your application number. You have applied only after clicking Submit. Keep a printout; nothing is posted to TNPSC.
You can edit until 5 November, and the correction window (9–11 November) is the last chance after that. TNPSC warns the site slows near the deadline, so apply early.
Documents to keep ready
Some documents are needed when you apply, the rest only if you are shortlisted. Send nothing by post unless TNPSC asks.
When you apply
SSLC mark sheet (for the OTR details) and Aadhaar for OTR linking
The photograph and signature scans described above
Typewriting, shorthand and Computer on Office Automation certificate details, if your post needs them
Disability certificate in the prescribed format, if you claim exemption from the Tamil paper
FIR or court orders if you declare a criminal case. If you are in government service, tell your employer in writing before applying; you will have to produce their No Objection Certificate
When TNPSC calls you for certificate verification
SSLC and HSC mark sheets (every attempt) as proof of date of birth and qualification; degree certificates if you claim a higher qualification
Community certificate showing your father's or mother's name, issued by the competent revenue officer (a certificate citing your spouse's name is rejected)
PSTM proof: Tamil-medium certificates for every level from Class 1 up to the qualification the post requires
Proof of Tamil knowledge (a mark sheet with Tamil as a language, or the Second Class Language Test)
Where they apply: destitute widow certificate from the RDO, ex-servicemen papers, transgender ID card from the Tamil Nadu Transgender Welfare Board, and the physical, eye, driving-experience and first-aid certificates for forest posts
Selection: written exam, certificate check, counselling
There is no interview. The exam is one OMR paper, 200 questions and 300 marks in three hours: Part A Tamil (100 questions, 150 marks), Part B General Studies (75) and Part C Aptitude and Mental Ability (25). Topics are on the Group 4 syllabus page.
Qualify. Parts B and C are marked only if you score at least 60 in Part A. The minimum total is 90 of 300 for every community.
Rank. The rank list is on total marks across all three parts.
Onscreen certificate verification, called by rank and reservation: 1:3 for the general turn and 1:2 for reserved categories (1:6 for forest posts).
Forest posts only: physical standards test and an endurance walk in Chennai (25 km for men, 16 km for women and third gender, in four hours).
Physical certificate verification and counselling, where posts are allotted in order of rank and reservation.
How that process turns into a "cut-off" for each community and post is explained in Group 4 cut-off marks.
Don't leave any answer blank: the 0.5-mark rule
A wrong answer costs nothing, but each question left blank costs 0.5 mark. The OMR sheet has a fifth bubble, [E] "answer not known"; shade it rather than leave a question empty. A missing left thumb impression also costs 0.5 mark.

Start preparing now
Thirteen weeks is enough. Begin with Part A: it carries half the marks and decides whether the rest of your paper is marked, and our General Tamil guide shows where those marks come from. Then practise against the clock: 200 questions in 180 minutes is under a minute each. Thervu's Group 4 mock tests are timed, in Tamil and English, and marked the moment you submit; questions you get wrong come back in your revision queue.
