The TNPSC annual planner for 2026, published on 3 December 2025, scheduled six recruitment exams for the year. As of 11 October 2026, TNPSC has issued all six notifications on the dates the planner gave, but most exam dates have moved: Group 4 from 20 December 2026 to 10 January 2027, the Group 2/2A prelims from 25 October to 1 November, and the Group 1 prelims from 6 to 27 September. The 2027 planner is not out yet.
TNPSC annual planner 2026: planned vs actual dates
All dates are in 2026 unless shown.
Exam | Planner: notification → exam | What actually happened |
|---|---|---|
Combined Technical Services (Non-Interview Posts) | 20 May → 3 Aug | Notified 20 May (No. 04/2026); exam in subject-wise sessions from 16 Aug to 19 Sep (reported) |
Group 1 (CCSE-I) | 23 Jun → 6 Sep | Notified 23 Jun (No. 05/2026, 26 posts, later 46); prelims moved to 27 Sep and held (reported) |
Combined Technical Services (Diploma/ITI Level) | 7 Jul → 20 Sep | Notified 7 Jul (No. 06/2026, 839 posts, later 856); Paper II (computer-based) on dates from 11 Oct to 24 Nov, Paper I on 15 Nov (reported) |
Group 2/2A (CCSE-II) | 11 Aug → 25 Oct | Notified 11 Aug for 821 posts (41 Group II, 780 Group IIA), raised to 846 by an addendum on 3 Sep (reported); prelims on 1 Nov (reported) |
Combined Technical Services (Interview Posts) | 31 Aug → 14 Nov | Notified 31 Aug (No. 08/2026, 170 posts); applications closed 6 Oct; exam date not yet confirmed (reported) |
Group 4 (CCSE-IV) | 6 Oct → 20 Dec | Notified 6 Oct (No. 11/2026, 6,574 vacancies); exam moved to 10 Jan 2027 (confirmed) |
The planner's notes say vacancies are announced in each notification, and TNPSC can add posts later, as it did this year for Group 1, Group 2/2A and the Diploma/ITI exam.
What the 2026 planner got right, and what moved
Every notification came out on the day the planner said. That matches what TNPSC said when it released the planner: that in 2024 and 2025 too, all its notifications were issued on the announced dates (reported by Dinamalar).
Exam dates held less well. Five of the six moved, mostly by one to three weeks, and the sixth (the technical interview-post exam) has no confirmed date yet. Group 4 moved by three weeks, from 20 December into the new year.
What this means when you plan:
Trust the planner's notification date. You can plan to apply on it.
Treat the planner's exam date as a target. It can slip by a few weeks; the notification and the hall ticket fix the real date.
Start preparing from the planner, not the notification. For Group 4, the gap between notification and exam has been as short as 11 weeks.
Group 4 cycle | Notification | Exam | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
2024 | 30 Jan 2024 | 9 Jun 2024 | About 19 weeks |
2025 | 25 Apr 2025 | 12 Jul 2025 | About 11 weeks |
2026 | 6 Oct 2026 | 10 Jan 2027 | About 14 weeks |
The 2024 dates are from TNPSC's revised 2024 planner; the exam was held on the planned day. The 2025 dates are from Notification No. 07/2025 and the exam as held; the 2026 dates are from Notification No. 11/2026.
TNPSC notification 2026: what is still open
As of 11 October 2026:
Group 4: apply at tnpscexams.in until 5 November, 11:59 PM. The correction window is 9 to 11 November, and the exam is on 10 January 2027, 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Vacancies, fees and the application steps are in our Group 4 notification 2026 guide.
Group 2/2A: prelims on 1 November; hall tickets are downloaded online and not sent by post (reported).
Combined Technical Services, Diploma/ITI: the exam is under way; your hall ticket shows your own paper dates (reported).
Combined Technical Services, Interview Posts: applications closed on 6 October and the correction window runs from 10 to 12 October; the notification says the exam dates will be announced later.
Group 1: the prelims was written on 27 September; the result and mains dates are awaited.
The 2026 planner has nothing after Group 4. Its notes say exams can be added or dropped, so a notification outside the planner is possible, but none has been announced.
TNPSC Group 1 notification 2026 and exam date
Group 1 (Combined Civil Services Examination–I) was notified on 23 June 2026 under Notification No. 05/2026 for 26 posts, with applications from 30 June to 29 July (reported by Careers360). The prelims, planned for 6 September, was held on 27 September 2026 at 38 district centres (reported by Careers360), by then for 46 posts (reported by Dinamalar). It is a screening test for the mains, whose dates TNPSC has not announced yet.
TNPSC Group 2 notification 2026 and prelims date
Group 2/2A (Combined Civil Services Examination–II) was notified on 11 August 2026 for 821 posts, 41 in Group II and 780 in Group IIA, with applications until 9 September (reported by PW). Addendum 7A/2026 of 3 September raised this to 846: 43 Group II and 803 Group IIA posts. The prelims is on 1 November 2026, 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, a week after the planner's 25 October. It is a degree-level exam.
Thervu's TNPSC mock tests follow the Group 4 pattern; we don't run separate Group 1 or Group 2/2A tests. If you are writing Group 2/2A in November and Group 4 in January, much of the general studies overlaps, though Group 2/2A sets it at degree level.
When will the TNPSC annual planner 2027 come out?
TNPSC has not announced a date. Here is when the last three planners appeared:
Planner | Published |
|---|---|
2024 | December 2023 (reported); revised on 24 April 2024 |
2025 | October 2024 (reported) |
2026 | 3 December 2025 (confirmed on TNPSC's planner page) |
So the planner has come out between October and December. As of 11 October 2026 the 2027 planner is not on tnpsc.gov.in. The 2026 planner gave a planned notification date and exam date for each exam but no vacancy counts, which came with each notification.
We will add the 2027 dates to our upcoming government exams calendar when the planner is published.
What Group 4 aspirants should do now
The exam is on 10 January 2027, about 13 weeks away. The 2027 planner matters only if you plan a second attempt; for now, the 2026 exam is the one to prepare for.
Apply early. Complete One-Time Registration first if you haven't (₹150, valid five years), then pay the ₹100 exam fee unless you are exempt. Don't leave it to the last few days before 5 November.
Follow a plan that fits the time left. Our 90-day Group 4 study plan covers almost exactly the weeks remaining. The Group 4 syllabus lists every unit.
Put Tamil first. Part A has 100 questions for 150 marks, and Parts B and C are evaluated only if you score at least 60 in Part A.
Answer every question. A wrong answer costs nothing, but each blank costs half a mark, so shade option E when you don't know.
Test yourself under exam conditions at least once a week from now on.
Thervu's Group 4 mock tests are timed, in Tamil and English, and marked the moment you submit; the questions you get wrong come back in your revision queue until you get them right. The Group 4 exam guide has the full pattern and selection process.
Thervu is independent and not affiliated with TNPSC. Dates are as of 11 October 2026; we update this page when TNPSC publishes the 2027 planner.
Frequently asked questions
When will the TNPSC annual planner 2027 be released?
TNPSC has not announced a date, and as of 11 October 2026 the 2027 planner is not out. The last three planners were published in December 2023, October 2024 and December 2025, so October to December has been the usual window.
Is the TNPSC Group 4 exam on 20 December 2026?
No. The annual planner had 20 December 2026, but Group 4 Notification No. 11/2026 fixes the exam for 10 January 2027, 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Applications are open until 5 November 2026.
When is the TNPSC Group 2 prelims in 2026?
On 1 November 2026, 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, as reported by DT Next. The planner had pencilled it in for 25 October. The notification came out on 11 August 2026 for 821 Group II and IIA posts, and an addendum on 3 September raised the total to 846.
When was the TNPSC Group 1 exam in 2026?
The Group 1 prelims was held on 27 September 2026, moved from the planner's 6 September, as reported by Careers360 and Dinamalar. The notification, No. 05/2026, came out on 23 June 2026 for 26 posts, later raised to 46.
Are the dates in the TNPSC annual planner final?
No. TNPSC calls the planner tentative. In 2026 every notification came out on its planned date, but most exam dates moved by one to three weeks, so the notification and hall ticket are what to trust for the exam date.
How many exams were in the TNPSC annual planner 2026?
Six: Group 1, Group 2/2A, Group 4 and three Combined Technical Services exams (non-interview posts, Diploma/ITI level and interview posts). All six had been notified by 6 October 2026.
