The TNUSRB SI notification 2026 has not been released yet, but TNUSRB has said when to expect it. Its revised Annual Planner, published on 2 September 2026, lists a direct recruitment of Sub-Inspectors of Police (Women), Taluk, in December 2026, followed by SI (Technical) in February 2027 and a direct recruitment of Sub-Inspectors of Police in June 2027. So the next SI notice is about a month away, and it is for women only.

TNUSRB SI notification 2026: the planned dates

TNUSRB first published its 2026–27 planner on 9–10 July 2026 with four recruitments. The 2 September revision added two recruitments for women, brought the Common Recruitment forward to February 2027 and replaced the August 2027 "Joint Recruitment" with a direct recruitment of Sub-Inspectors of Police in June 2027. SI (Technical) and Band Police Constables kept their months. The SI entries now read:

Recruitment

Tentative notification

Who can apply

Sub-Inspectors of Police (Women), Taluk

December 2026

Women graduates

Sub-Inspectors (Technical)

February 2027

Candidates with the technical qualification the notice sets

Sub-Inspectors of Police (direct recruitment)

June 2027

Graduates; the 2025 round covered Taluk and Armed Reserve

The same planner lists Grade II Police Constables (Women) in December 2026, the Common Recruitment (constable, jail warder, fireman) in February 2027 and Band Police Constables in March 2027. The constable side is covered in our TN Police Constable exam guide.

The planner gives months only. It does not give vacancy numbers, application dates, the age cut-off date or exam dates. Those arrive with each notification.

Why the December 2026 notice is for women only

The September revision added two women-only recruitments: Grade II Police Constables (Women) and Sub-Inspectors of Police (Women), Taluk. In the 2025 round women applied in the same recruitment as men, for the Taluk and Armed Reserve wings together, with a share of posts reserved for them: of the 986 Taluk posts, 295 were for women and transgender candidates, as reported. The planner does not say whether transgender candidates can apply to the "(Women)" round; check the notice. The December notice, as the planner describes it, is a separate recruitment for women, for the Taluk wing only.

What that means for you:

  • If you are a woman graduate, December 2026 is your first chance. June 2027 may be a second one if, like the 2025 round, it is open to women; the planner doesn't say. Prepare as if the exam follows the 2025 pattern, then check the notice for any change.

  • If you are a man, the next SI recruitment you can apply to is the June 2027 direct recruitment, or SI (Technical) in February 2027 if you hold a technical qualification it accepts. For the June 2027 round that is seven months or more of preparation time.

The planner does not say whether the women's recruitment will use the same written exam, physical tests or merit formula as the joint recruitment. Prepare for the 2025 scheme until the notice says otherwise.

What the last SI notification tells us

The most recent SI recruitment was Notification No. 01/2025, dated 4 April 2025, for 1,299 posts (933 Taluk and 366 Armed Reserve) plus 53 shortfall vacancies (notification PDF). Its timeline gives a fair idea of how the next one will run:

Stage

2025 SI recruitment

Notification

4 April 2025

Online application

7 April to 3 May 2025 (reported extended to 10 May)

Correction window

Until 15 May 2025 (reported; first set for 13 May)

Written exam

21 December 2025 (first set for June, postponed over a Supreme Court case)

Written exam result

27 January 2026

Then

Certificate verification, physical tests, viva-voce

The 2025 dates are from the notice as quoted by Tamilan Career and other job sites; the extensions were reported by TN JobZone and Scroll. If the December notice keeps a similar four-week window, applications would close in January 2027. That is an estimate, not a TNUSRB date.

Eligibility: age, qualification and height (from the 2025 notice)

These are the 2025 rules. The new notice can change any of them, most often the age cut-off date.

Qualification. A bachelor's degree from a university recognised by the UGC or the Government, on or before the date of the notification. The degree must follow SSLC and Higher Secondary (10+2+3/4/5), or SSLC and a diploma, or SSLC and a two-year ITI. An open-university degree taken directly, without that schooling path, was not accepted.

Age. In 2025 a general-category candidate had to be at least 20 and under 30 on 1 July 2025. Relaxations:

Category

Upper age limit (2025)

General

Under 30

BC, BC(Muslim), MBC/DNC

32

SC, SC(A), ST

35

Transgender

35

Destitute widow

37

Ex-servicemen and ex-CAPF personnel

47

Departmental quota (20% of posts, serving police only)

47 (as on 1 July 2024)

Height. At least 159 cm for women (157 cm for SC, SC(A) and ST) and 170 cm for men (167 cm for SC, SC(A) and ST). Men also need an 81 cm chest with 5 cm expansion. The running, jumping and throwing events, with their marks, are in our TNUSRB physical test guide.

Tamil. Every candidate writes the Part I Tamil test, so you need working Tamil whatever your medium of study.

The written exam you will be preparing for

In 2025 the open-quota written exam had two parts, with no negative marking:

Part

What it covers

Questions

Marks

Part I

Tamil Language Eligibility Test

100

100, qualifying (pass mark 40)

Part II

General Knowledge (80) and Psychology (60)

140

70

Part I only has to be passed; if you score below 40, Part II is not marked. Part II's 70 marks go into the final merit list, out of 100, along with the Physical Efficiency Test (15), the viva-voce (10) and special marks for NCC, NSS and sports (5). The full unit list is on the TN Police SI syllabus page, and the pattern, quotas and merit rules are in the TN Police SI exam guide.

How to use the weeks before the notice

Women aiming for December. No exam date is known, so plan as if it could come a few months after applications close. A plan that works from now:

  1. Weeks 1–2: take one full timed mock test to see where you stand, and learn the Part II unit list. Fix your Tamil grammar gaps first, because Part I is pass-or-out.

  2. Weeks 3–8: General Knowledge from the Samacheer Kalvi books (Classes 6–12: science, history, geography, polity, economics), one subject at a time, with a short topic test after each.

  3. Daily: 20–30 minutes of Psychology practice (reasoning, numbers, reading-and-inference). Its 60 questions are worth 30 marks and speed improves fast with practice.

  4. From now on: train for the physical tests in parallel. They come months after the written exam, but fitness takes longer to build than marks.

Men aiming for June 2027. You have time to cover the whole syllabus twice. Spend the first three months on General Knowledge, keep Psychology going daily, and switch to full mock tests from about March 2027.

Everyone. Get your documents ready now: degree certificate and marksheets, SSLC and Higher Secondary certificates, community certificate, Tamil-medium certificate if you studied in Tamil, a recent photo and signature scan, and NCC, NSS or sports certificates if you hold them, because they carry up to 5 marks.

What it pays

The 2025 notice gave an SI pay scale of ₹36,900–1,16,600. With dearness allowance at 60% from 1 January 2026, basic plus DA is ₹59,040 a month at the start, before HRA, allowances and deductions. The breakdown, in-hand pay and promotion path are in our TN Police salary guide.

Where to watch for the notice

TNUSRB publishes every notification on tnusrb.tn.gov.in, and applications are taken only there. The site is often slow or unreachable when a notice drops, so check again later rather than trusting a forwarded PDF. Our list of upcoming government exams in Tamil Nadu is updated monthly with the TNUSRB, TNPSC, RRB and SBI dates we track.

Thervu is independent and not connected to TNUSRB. Its TN Police SI mock tests are timed, in Tamil and English, and marked the moment you submit.
